What's the Differences in 2.0?

This is designed for sports clinicians, including sports therapists, athletic trainers and physiotherapists, etc. seeking to enhance their skills in musculoskeletal ultrasound in clinical and on-the-field settings. The content has been thoughtfully tailored for beginners. The 2.0 version course will cover the following areas that different from the first version:

  • Point-of care Ultrasound(POCUS) in sports emergencies such as tissues tears, fractures, internal haemorrhage, pneumothorax, cardiac conditions, volume assessments, etc.;

  • MSK Ultrasound for recognition of injuries.

  • MSK Ultrasound applications in sports medicine context.

  • Category A -  Registered Members and Students Members of STAoHK;

  • Category B - Medical and Allied Health Members of STAoHK - physiotherapists, medical doctors, TCM practitioners, chiropractors and osteopaths, etc.

  • Category B - Professional Members of STAoHK - Sports Trainer w/ Sports Medicine Degree holders/Certified Athletic Trainer/Therapist and declared as a primary occupation.

  • Any qualified professionals/students mentioned above but non-members of STAoHK can enroll too.

Applicant MUST pay the 50% upfront at enrollment and pay the balance on or before 15 December 2024. Applicants failing to pay the balance on the deadline specified will lead to cancellation of the seat with NO REFUND.

Award

  • Certificate of Completion awarded by both STAoHK and The Asian Academy of Diagnostic Ultrasound & Musculoskeletal Disorders(AADUM).

  • 22 CPD hours for STAoHK Category A Members;

  • Registered Members will automatically cover under the professional indemnity insurance after completion of the course;

  • Students Members MUST apply the techniques under supervision of a qualified practitioner according to the insurance clause; 

  • Medical and Allied Health Members please refer to your insurance policy that is proposed by the relevant professional body; 

  • CPD for Hong Kong registered physios and OTs - pending.

 

Course Content (Total 22hrs 15 mins)

 

1. Fundamentals of Ultrasound Physics

2. Point of Care Ultrasound(POCUS) Applications in Sports Emergencies
    2.1 Assessment of thoracic Trauma (e.g pneumothorax, hemothorax)
    2.2 Cardiac USG Assessments (e.g presence of pericardial effusion, global cardiac systolic function)
    2.3 Volume status Assessment  (e.g severe dehydration)
    2.4 Abdominal Trauma insights (eg. intra-abdominal bleeding)

3. Musculoskeletal Ultrasound in Sports Medicine
   3.1 Lectures 
        Upper Limb Focus
        - Shoulder, Elbow, and Wrist Anatomy
        - Shoulder, Elbow, and Wrist Sonoanatomy
        Lower Limb Focus
        - Hip, Knee, and Ankle Anatomy
        - Hip, Knee, and Ankle Sonoanatomy
     3.2 Hands-On Practice 

4. Sports Injury Assessments and Ultrasound Applications
    4.1  Muscle Injury Grading
    4.2 Ligament Integrity Grading
    4.3 Tendon Injury Grading
    4.4 Fracture Assessment

This course incorporates extensive hands-on training and practical sessions to enhance clinical proficiency in sports medicine.
